1969 Mercury Cyclone Spoiler - Looking Back
'69 Cyclone Spoiler With Spoiler II Option
Though the Spoiler normally came as a standard nose car with either the Dan Gurney Presidential Blue/Wimbledon White configuration (as shown) or Cale Yarborough Candyapple Red/Wimbledon White setup, one could order it with the Spoiler II package for an additional $393.90. This package added the long nose that helped propel the body around the NASCAR tracks of Daytona and Talladega. Interestingly, the Spoiler II, unlike the cheaper base Spoiler or its corporate cousin, the Torino Talladega, was only available with a 351 Windsor and FMX automatic-an odd choice. Reports have it the Spoiler with the II package actually delivered on the performance end when pushed to high speeds.
Only 519 of these were built, but that number may also have included the standard Spoilers.
