Victor Putiri’s ’93 Notchback breaks the bank
As Mustang enthusiasts, we all have an undoubted tie to our love for our Mustangs. There's always time to tinker with it and turn a wrench, despite anything else that needs to be done around the house. No matter what, we always have to cater to her every need, even when our pockets aren't filled with cash. You know those last few dollars you saved to take your girlfriend out? Well ... yeah, your Mustang will take that too.
Victor is no more or less of a victim than any of us, but his love for his money-hungry "wife," a '93 coupe, remains tenacious. However, his wife has received quite a bit of cosmetic work over the years and didn't always look so stellar.
"When I graduated high school, I got into the whole performance thing," Victor told us. "I hung out with a bunch of gearheads, and that's when I eventually got my first Fox." Victor's first Stang was an '86 T-top GT hatchback. He says it didn't have one straight body panel but hauled some serious butt, and that's when he caught the bug.
It's not always a good sign when you're interviewing a Mustang owner and you hear the words "I'm not married, but it's my wife.
He sold the heavily dented hatchback back in 1999 and began searching for his next toy. After looking for a clean, unmolested Fox for over a year, he picked up his second Mustang, a '93 coupe. It was an automatic—not exactly what he was looking for, but it fit the bill when it came to finding one that wasn't run down and in poor shape.
After a couple of years as his everyday pizza delivery car, it was broken into. The thieves weren't graceful about it. They pried the driver's door open with a prybar, bending both the door and body severely. A few months after the break-in, more bad news would follow. Victor was involved in a frontend accident, disfiguring his pride and joy even more.
Upset at his misfortunes, he felt it was a sign. "It has been cursed since the day I got it. Once I fixed something, another thing would break or something bad would happen."
With his coupe in need of heavy repair, he finally took it over to his current part-time job, Kraftwerk Customs in Broomall, Pennsylvania, for paint and bodywork. Owner John Semanko worked on Victor's coupe during the late hours of the night whenever time was available. However, after two years of waiting and a lot of patience, John did not have enough time to spare, so Victor took his ride to another paint shop to have it reworked. He wanted something eloquent and had it sprayed with a solid strawberry metallic paint color.

No longer a beat-up pizza delivery car, Victor's Stang was looking better than ever. Shortly after bringing his ride home, he knew it was time to turn things up. "I'm not a real huge track fan, but I wanted something that looked and sounded good. I was looking for the whole package," Victor told us. So he had Bill Giannzkarios, owner of Harry's Auto in Folcroft, Pennsylvania, fire things up a bit.
Adding to the stock 302, a Powerdyne supercharger cranks out 10 pounds of boost. A 70mm throttle body controls air volume, feeding a GT-40 intake and heads; an E303 cam is responsible for lifting the 1.7 Ford Racing roller rockers. Ignition is controlled via MSD components, and the exhaust flows through BBK shorty headers, into a H-style mid-pipe, and out through a Flowmaster after-cat exhaust. The stance sits perfect with Eibach lowering springs and KYB shocks and struts. The factory 8.8-inch rear also features 3.73 gears. Deciding to stick with the stock AOD, Victor also had Giannzkarios rebuild the transmission and equip it with a 2,800-stall converter.
Inside, Victor and John went all out to customize his interior. They converted the dull gray interior to black. New carpet and headliner were placed inside, as well as two new Corbeau front seats, recovered back seats, new door panels, a silver dash cluster, a custom shift knob, and Auto Meter gauges. The dash, center console, and rear quarter trim were all professionally painted by John. Gary Goodman from Goodman Radio, based in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, installed all new stereo equipment. A JL Audio amplifier powers the MB Quart door speakers and tweeters, and a 2,150-watt Precision Power Class amplifier powers two JL Audio subwoofers in the trunk.
Just when Victor thought he was done with his coupe and had it to where he liked it, a close friend convinced him otherwise. "I sent it to the shop to have subframe connectors installed," Victor explained to us. "Instead it underwent a five-lug conversion, new custom-painted Bullit wheels to match the new exterior color, and a two-tone paint job."
For the second time, his coupe featured another repaint. This time John mustered in the time to rework Victor's paint, and the results speak for themselves. The top half is sprayed with a custom Smog Grey and the lower half kept the prior Strawberry Metallic. While in the booth, Victor also added a 4-inch Cervini's cowl hood.
"I have over $10,000 in paint work invested into the car," said Victor. "I've known John for over 12 years and trust him completely. He is super meticulous and anything that comes out of his shop is always flawless. Everything just snowballed when it came to my car. I planned on doing something simple but it just evolved into what it is today."
There's no doubt that plenty of money and time has been invested into Victor's love affair. She's certainly taken him for a ride (pun intended) and emptied his wallet time and time again, but we are glad to see Victor and his "wife" have a bond that may not just be about money. Well, we can't go that far, but hey … there's a reason why she's stuck around so long.
