My name is Brian Preece. I'm 25 years old and this is my second Mustang. I currently live in Windsor, Ontario, and work at a local Ford dealership.

People say I'm in the right business for my hobby. I have loved Mustangs ever since I first heard the rumble of a 5.0L Fox-body. I was 7 years old and it was the middle of summer when an '89 hatchback, black with gray interior, pulled up to the stoplight right outside of my house. I was outside washing the family cars with my dad when the owner caught me staring down his Fox. He smiled and just as I yelled “nice car,” he raised the rpm and dumped the clutch, leaving two thick black marks on the road. Ever since that day I have been hooked.

The moment I could afford a Mustang, I bought one—an '88 LX. However, my first Stang wouldn't stay long. I now own an '85 Mustang GT equipped with factory T-tops.

It's a factory Canadian car that has been in southern Ontario its entire life. The car was painted 12 years ago and it still looks like it just rolled out of the booth. I was told it is called Chili Pepper Red, and also that the lower portions being gray was a Canadian Cobra option only. I bought the car last year as a replacement for my '88 LX.

Though I loved the '88, it needed more time and work than I was able to give it. This '85 was just too good of a deal to pass on, so the LX was sold to make room for this little gem.

The car has a freshly built 306 with ported and polished 351 heads. It also has an Edelbrock high-rise intake and water pump, topped with a Holley 650-cfm Street Avenger carburetor, filtering air through a K&N filter. There is a Comp Cams camshaft down the middle with 1.7 roller rockers, and a Ford Racing Performance Parts timing set. Spark is controlled via an MSD ignition system, as well as fuel by an Edelbrock electric fuel pump.

All that is backed up by a T5 five-speed transmission with a FRPP clutch. The rearend is composed of a built 8.8, with 3:73 gears and Moser 28-spline axles. Weld Racing Draglites fill the fenderwells. It also has Southside lower control arms, and through-the-floor subframe connectors welded in.

The exhaust consists of BBK longtube headers and an X-style mid-pipe, flowing into Flowmaster mufflers.

The most unique thing on my Stang is the cowl hood. It is 100-percent steel and custom-fabricated. It looks great and nobody can really believe it's all steel—everyone expects a fiberglass substitute. The hood was detailed with the original GT-style stripe across the raised section of the cowl on the hood. It was custom-fabricated to clear the air cleaner and the high-rise intake. I love the way it sets the car apart from the rest of the cars at the local shows.

I don't know what it would run at the dragstrip, but a few of my Mustang friends say it is capable of a high-12-second pass. I will run the car this spring to see what it can do—and hopefully come home with a 12-second timeslip!
