Ford Racing Performance Parts to Auction FR500S Mustang
Web Exclusive - Own a Piece Of Modern Ford History!
It seems like it was just yesterday that Dorsey Schroeder was tossing FR500S #00 around Road Atlanta with your goofy grinned scribe enjoying every corner of the famed track. While not yesterday, it was just four months ago that myself and a number of other journalists took part in the inaugural Ford Racing Mustang Challenge for the Miller Cup at Road Atlanta. Watching a new series come to life with turn-key FR500S Mustangs was very exciting. The wheel to wheel racing, going through the pits and talking to the racers and support crew first hand, and of course the hot laps in #00 with Dorsey are great memories I'll remember always.
We recently got word from Ford Racing that this very car, #00, which is car serial number 32 of the 75 FR500S Mustangs built, is going to be crossing the auction block at the upcoming Barrett-Jackson automobile auction in Las Vegas this October. The FR500S is lot number 508 and is scheduled to be sold sometime Friday 10/17 in the afternoon. I don't know what will get "thrown in" with the car, but don't be surprised if Ford Racing offers up some extras to help the sell the car, as Ford has done in the past with other auctions they've been involved in.
Here's a bit more detail on the car and why it's so special:
2008 Mustang FR500S Factory-Built Race Car - Serial Number 32 of 75
This unique FR500S, complete with two Sparco racing seats and a second set of safety harnesses, saw considerable track time in 2008 promoting the Ford Racing Mustang Challenge for the Miller Cup - the first-ever Mustang racing series featuring the first-ever race cars to be built by a Ford assembly plant. (While this car does have a serial number, it does not have a VIN and is not street-legal.)
Driven first at the Road Atlanta debut of this year's inaugural season by 1989 Mustang Trans-Am Champion Dorsey Schroeder, this car served as an evaluation vehicle ("This car is balanced, forgiving, and predictable, and the brakes are great ... everything you could ever want in a race car" - Dorsey Schroeder), and as a hot lap car for journalists including editors from "Car Craft", "Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords", "5.0 Mustang and Super Fords", and "Modified Mustangs and Fords". This "media car" was also raced successfully by guest drivers including JG Pasterjack ("Grassroots Motorsports"), Brian Smith (SPEEDtv.com) and Team Falken Ford Racing Mustang world champion drifter, Vaughn Gittin Jr. This car was also featured on the cover of the August 2008 issue of "Grassroots Motorsports" magazine in which the Mustang Challenge series was covered extensively.
Offered by Ford Racing, the exclusivity, notoriety, and track pedigree of this special car make it perfect as a collector car, a Mustang Challenge race car, or a track car. Like all FR500S race cars, this "media car" features the following content:
Check out this collection of #00 photos we compiled from our Ford Racing Challenge event coverage over the past season, and yes, that's your editor giving the thumbs up before my ride with Dorsey. If you buy #00 let us know, as I'd surely like to go for another ride in her some day!
