Ken Boyd Tells The Story Behind His 1966 Mustang GT
A Man and his Mustang
Sometimes, it takes a while to find just the right car for you, and even more time to fully make it yours. That was the case with Oxnard, California’s Ken Boyd. He had owned a few Mustangs previously but really wanted an early fastback, red with a black interior. Several fastbacks came and went during the search, but none of them were up to par until he found his current 1966 Mustang GT back East. It was red with black interior, so it filled the first part of the bill.
Over the 16 years Ken has owned the car, he’s done a few mods to it, such as dropping a 331ci stroker motor in place of the stock 289 and swapping out the automatic for a four-speed. We’ll let Ken tell you the whole story on his love for the car and what he’s done to it, and you’ll understand that after all these years, the love affair between Ken and his 1966 GT is still going strong. As the third owner, this Detroit-built car currently spends its days driving alongside the pristine beaches of Oxnard, just north of Los Angeles.
Out for a drive in our own car recently, we drove by his home and noticed a very familiar shape under the car cover in the garage. Once we stopped to ask his story, we inquired if he’d like his car featured on MustangMonthly.com. Mr. Boyd’s face lit up and we knew it was a must do video feature.
