Sentimental Steed

Michael Mauvais • Lake Stevens, WA • '84 Mustang GT

Being the second owner of this beaut, Michael picked up this '84 GT in 1986 for $7,700 with 9,300 miles on the clock. After serving daily driver duties for years and providing the ride for his first date with his now wife, Michael's Stang accumulated 128,000 miles. He parked it in hopes of restoring it to its former glory, and after 15 years of collecting dust, he painted it the original silver and rebuilt the T5 transmission. Soon after, he added shorty headers, a BBK off-road exhaust, Flowmaster Super 44 mufflers, Steeda lowering springs, and subframe connectors, and converted it to five-lug with four-wheel disc brakes. It also has an 8.8 rearend with 3.73 gears, Mays 17-inch wheels, and a whole new interior, complete with Recaro seats.

Felix Rendon • Stafford, TX • '11 Mustang GT

After owning many older Mustangs, including an SN-95 Saleen, it took time for the S197 platform to grow on Felix. Liking the factory facelift given to the S197 in 2010, Felix bit the bullet when the 5.0 was reintroduced in 2011. Mods on his '11 5.0 include a 2.9L Whipple, JLT oil catch can, American Racing headers, and Kooks after-cat exhaust. Improved handling comes from BMR springs, upper-lower control arms, adjustable Panhard bar, weld-on subframe connectors, and Tokico adjustable shocks/struts. SVE wheels wrapped in Eagle F1 tires hide Brembo brakes, and shifting power is provided by an Exedy 600 clutch and MGW short shifter.

Rare Coupe

Jacob Heathman • Federal Way, WA • '80 Ghia Coupe

Jacob Heathman, 17, is the proud owner of this '80 Mustang Ghia coupe that he and his dad found on a car lot about two years ago. When he brought it home, it had just 49,000 original miles; just last year it rolled 54,000. Jacob's coupe came with the rare Carriage top—a faux convertible top option that many did not have due to its high price. Stuffed inside the engine bay is a 200-cid inline six-cylinder engine. Since the purchase of his coupe, Jacob's parents have added a '89 LX 5.0 and a '92 GT convertible to the family.

Grey Gelding

Barry Bissiere • Pittsburgh, PA • '03 Mustang GT

Barry's '03 Dark Shadow Grey GT features plenty of mods, including a front coilover kit and caster/camber plates from Maximum Motorsports, rear H&R Super Sport springs, Kenny Brown strut tower brace, SSBC slotted/cross-drilled rotors, Stifflers steel-braided brake lines, UPR's off-road cross-pipe, K&N CAI, and Canton Expansion coolant tank. Cosmetic mods include FR500 wheels (18x9 front/18x10 rear), a Mach 1 grille delete, and a chin spoiler. Interior upgrades include Corbeau CR1 seats, harnesses and a harness bar, and an MMR rear seat delete. Future plans include autocross and a track day this summer.
