New-Generation Ford SYNC AppLink Launching First on ‘15 Mustang
Taking In-Car Smartphone Experiences to a Whole New Level
If you are antsy to get your hands on one of the new 2015 Ford Mustangs going on sale this coming fall, here is a little information regarding some of the new technology that will be available at your fingertips.
The next generation Ford SYNC AppLink system is launching first on the all-new Mustang in North America and it has some sweet improvements for the in-vehicle smartphone app experience. Simpler menus, enhanced voice control and other new features will be available in this new system.
“Ford led the industry in giving drivers the ability to control their smartphone apps on the go with the introduction of SYNC AppLink in 2010,” said Raj Nair, Ford group vice president, global product development. “We are now making the in-vehicle app experience simpler and more intuitive to further help drivers keep their hands on the wheel and eyes on the road.”
New functions for the SYNC AppLink include:
• Simpler in-vehicle menus and controls, which are able to launch apps by pushing a SYNC voice button on the steering wheel and saying the name of the app aloud without having to give prior commands.
• Apps allow access to real-time vehicle information such as speed, acceleration, odometer, and location. The in-vehicle GPS signal can enable a more precise location point than those used in phone sensors.
• App usage is more consistent for the user with voice pass-through capability, which enables developers to use the on-device or cloud-based voice recognition systems to evaluate commands given by the driver. Drivers can use the same set of voice commands in-car when connected to the vehicle as well as out of car.
• When receiving notifications, these can be read aloud to the driver as they come in without picking up the phone. These alerts are available whenever the mobile device is connected to the SYNC AppLink, even if the app isn’t active at the time or if the driver has the radio on.
“Our goal with AppLink has always been to let drivers take advantage of the information, news, and entertainment apps they value most,” said Doug VanDagens, Ford global director of connected services. “The new version of AppLink gives developers even more tools to help deliver a seamless app experience.”
As said before, this is the most advanced pony car yet. Not only does it feature a sleek new look in fastback or convertible and three different engine options including the 2.3L EcoBoost, but also inside the options are almost endless.
Mustang features include advanced driver-assist systems, track apps, launch control, and much more.
As soon as the new Sync AppLink rolls out in the 2015 Mustang, you can expect the rest of the Ford lineup to follow suit.
