Shelby Video Featuring Classic GT 350 and GT500 Mustangs
“My name is Carroll Shelby and performance is my business.”
That it was, and still is despite Carroll Shelby passing in May of last year. His company Shelby American is still thriving and producing performance cars like hot cakes. Carroll turned his racing passion into a career and became the ultimate Mustang man.
When Carroll was first approached by Lee Iacocca to help turn the Mustang into a race car, Carroll wasn’t sure the “secretary’s car” had what it takes to become a legend. Thanks to him, the car became more than that, it became a way of life and that still holds true today.
This video features two classics brought to us by the man himself, the GT350 and the GT500. The classic Mustang GT350 was the first aftermarket Mustang to grace the public and it came standard with a 4.7L V-8 engine. Its sibling, the GT500, was always a favorite among enthusiasts and collectors, which came equipped with a 428cid V-8.
With the popular remake movie Gone in 60 Seconds, popularity for the classic Shelby GT500 skyrocketed even more. The name “Eleanor” became a household name and introduced the average person to the Shelby Mustang GT500, and gave non-enthusiasts a glimpse of what a beautiful muscle car was supposed to look like.
Go ahead and check out this video featuring two classic pieces of machinery brought to life for us by an automotive legend. We can tell you now, that nobody thinks of the Mustang as a “secretary’s car” anymore. Thanks to Carroll Shelby and the performance ideas he had tucked up his sleeves.
May you rest in peace, Mr. Shelby, and thank you for everything you’ve done.
