1964 Lincoln Continental - Black Sabbath
Jeff Faine’s 1964 Lincoln looks like a creation straight from a nightmare
To power this menacing machine, Performance Unlimited out of Freehold, New Jersey, was enlisted to supply an über-reliable big-block. Starting with a fully machined 460 block, a set of Speed-Pro pistons attached to Eagle H-beam rods held together by ARP hardware are slung around by a forged Eagle crankshaft. The balanced rotating assembly is enhanced with a set of hydraulic rollers, a custom ground camshaft, and a set of Edelbrock heads that could inhale a small child. Final displacement is a monstrous 521 cubic inches, and each engine is dyno-proven to 575 hp before leaving the facility. Sure enough, because P.J. and his crew can't leave anything alone, the engine arrived at Chimera Customs and was quickly enhanced with a custom Hogan's intake manifold and Quick Fuel 750-cfm carburetor. The cherry on top is a set of valve covers and air cleaner made by Chimera to complete the look and sinister theme.
Finally, the suspension was the last project to tackle. Up front, RideTech tubular strong arms with a Shockwave system give the car almost limitless ride adjustment and modern road characteristics. To take it a step further, Chimera also converted the car to rack-and-pinion steering. The rear suspension was a little more difficult to get everything to work correctly.
"We had to convert the car to a custom four-link setup and use a double-adjustable Strange coilover as a helper setup for the air bags," explained P.J. As a result, the car can be driven at full drop, though it's not suggested.
Inside, the attention to detail continued as Jeff was looking to reuse the classic interior appointments, but allow the use of modern electronics and creature comforts
It goes without saying that the Continental isn't the skinniest gal at the dance, so a set of 13-inch Baer rotors and six-piston calipers colored in custom Vista Blue slow things down with great effect. The big binders are shrouded by black 22-inch Forgiato wheels wearing Pirelli tires, and the staggered fitment is an 8.5-inch front and 11.5-inch pairing.
Approximately a year-and-a-half later, the car was done. Jeff cruises it regularly and P.J. uses the Lincoln as a billboard for what his shop is capable of bringing to the plate. If you see this thing in your rearview mirror, it instantly sends a shiver up your spine and you think you're being chased. It oozes evil, and the big-block Ford sounds erupting from the Flowmaster exhaust are enough to scare anyone within ear shot. So if you think you have nothing to fear, it's because you haven't encountered Jeff's Lincoln.
