Fun Ford Weekend In Ennis - The Big Texas Hoedown
Rain Ends The FFW Parade In Ennis.
What promised to be a thrilling and exciting weekend of FFW racing at the Texas Motorplex quickly turned into a quagmire of downed hopes, spoiled dreams, and a very wet racetrack. With the Ennis event being the final one in 2006 in which points could be earned, the ensuing rain forced FFW officials to call the race and let the points standings remain at a final status quo.
Three classes were completed before the rains came-CFE Street Bandit, Borla Street Warrior, and MM&FF/Tremec True Street. As has been the norm all season, Matt Jones and Daniel Bott squared off in the CFE Street Bandit final, with Jones leading Bott wire to wire. After scoring a slight holeshot, Jones' 8.86 outran Bott's 8.89 for the victory. In Borla Street Warrior, John Scaro showed everyone why drivers are still needed as he picked up the holeshot win over Jeremy Martorella with a stellar 0.018 reaction time. Scaro's 9.65-second effort was enough to hold off the hard-charging 9.59 laid down by Martorella by a mere 0.021 second.
In MM&FF/Tremec True Street, Jimmy Russell and his Fox-body Stang ripped off three consis-tent passes in the mid-9-second zone to take home the win. His 9.57-second average bested David Belcher's second-best 9.76 average. Mick Procovich rounded out the top three with a 10.14-second average.
While rain ended the eliminations portion of the show, qualifying was completed on Saturday in all of the head-up classes.
