Fun Ford Weekend In Epping - An Epic Gathering
Scenic New England Dragway Hosts FFW Competitors Who Head Down The Final Stretch.
On July 8, the Fun Ford Weekend crew rolled into New England Dragway in Epping, New Hampshire, expecting the race to run smoothly over the course of two days. With a serious threat of rain in the forecast for Sunday, FFW officials decided to squeeze the event into one day, thus making all of the events on Saturday. Things got a bit hectic, but the show was finished, winners were crowned, and all in attendance had a great time.
More than 77 cars participated in the MM&FF/Tremec True Street category. There were no over-the-top cars in the 8s, but the competition was fierce and the elapsed time spread was extremely tight. After completing the required 30-mile cruise, each racer made the necessary three passes down the quarter-mile. The runs were averaged, and after the calculators finished the math, Stephen Harvey and his '94 Mustang GT ended up on top with an average e.t. of 10.692, which is remarkable considering his Stang competed with a wounded transmission. Nipping at Harvey's heels was Tim Potuin, who also managed to squeak into the 10-second zone by 0.02 of a second with his 10.980 average. Rounding out the top three was Richmond FFW True Street winner Jeff Edwards, who ripped off three low-11-second passes for an 11.201 average.
Jim Briante had the lone ProCharger Street Outlaw car, and he eased his New York-based '00 Mustang down the track for the win. Four cars made the trek to Epping to compete in Precision Turbo Street Renegade. Mike Chandler scored the top qualifying spot but ran into issues in the final round, allowing Shawn Gallagher to take the win. Jeremy Martorella went solo for the Borla Street Warrior win, while Peter Champani ousted Chris Little for the BFGoodrich Drag Radial victory. Danny Towe and his vintage '70 Mustang overcame a better reaction time by Dana Lombardozzi to score the Sean Hyland Motorsports Mod Comp win, and Mark Anderson trailered Rich Walsh in the money round of Superchips Racing Street Stang. Ford Racing Ultra Stang saw Jim D'Amore and S.D. Wheeler duke it out, with Wheeler coming out on top. Chris Parisi came within one light of scoring a double victory. He held off Dominick Tuzzo for the win in Accufab Four-Six Frenzy, but couldn't get the job done against Bristol FFW winner Bob Cochran in the final of JDM Engineering Tough Truck.
With only two points-scoring races remaining on the schedule, tension is rising on the FFW circuit. Let's get it on!
