Home to the most powerful small-block, Ford-powered Mustangs in the world, Pro 5.0 will have you on your feet screaming for more as competitors push their cars deep into the mid-six-second zone at more than 210 mph! Pro 5.0 is a professional-level drag racing class where small-block Ford engines power tube-chassis Mustangs to mid-six-second e.t.'s. Rear tire size is as large as 36x17 inches. Any 302- or 351-based small-block Ford engine is allowed, ranging from 306 to more than 430 ci. Single power adders are allowed, with nitrous, supercharger, and turbo-charger systems helping these powerplants make more than 2,000 hp! These cars weigh from 2,200 to 2,900 pounds depending on their cubic inches and power adder of choice. Many of the top cars run a Pro Stock-caliber Liberty five-speed or Lenco manual transmission, whereas some rely on a race-prepared automatic. In eliminations, there will be an all-run field run on a pro-tree (0.400) NHRA PRO ladder.

One to Watch:Pro 5.0 is a class in transition as we move away from back-halved cars and into the advanced 25.1C-certified Pro Stock/Pro Mod chassis. As such, look for new cars from several sources to be mixing it up throughout the '03 season. Jeff Tyson, Victor Sierra, Joe DaSilva, and Randy Eakins are just a few of the racers who will challenge the best that NMRA Pro 5.0 has to offer in 2003.

Quick Fact: As a class, Pro 5.0 has developed so quickly during the last two seasons that the emphasis of late has been put on limiting the power adders to help even out the competition. Look for turbocharger and supercharger restrictions to be offered in exchange for lighter racing weights. Also, the weight penalty for five-speed clutchless transmissions should go up. All of this offers the NMRA racers more options on how they want to configure their race cars.
