March 1, 2003

If you're looking for a place to start your heads-up pro-tree career with a Mustang, look no further than Factory Stock. This class was designed for basic, bolt-on 12- and 13-second EFI Mustangs, including '86-up 5.0s and '96-present 4.6s, with extremely limited modifications allowed. Maximum 310 ci and DOT radial tires are required. In eliminations, there will be an all-run field run on a pro-tree (0.400) NHRA Sportsman ladder.

5th Annual NMRA World FinalsSeptember 26-28, 2003Beech Bend Raceway ParkBowling Green, Kentucky

The NMRA World Finals at Beech Bend Raceway in Bowling Green, Kentucky, is consistently one of the biggest street-legal races in the world, as last-ditch efforts are made to secure coveted NMRA championships. Bowling Green not only draws all the top racers in the country, but also the old-school-covered grandstands will be packed to the rafters with spectators. Those folks are there to see the wicked Ford heads-up action for sure, but they also know that Bowling Green is the site of the biggest manufacturer's midway in the country, so they can do all their Christmas shopping for their gearhead friends early. We are expecting an even bigger show than we had in 2002, which means more than 10,000 spectators and 400 race cars packing the property. The world's fastest Mustangs and Fords will be converging on Beech Bend for a battle of bragging rights and access to more than $200,000 in purse and contingency for this single event. The NMRA World Finals will feature three days of heads-up Ford drag racing, a car show, a huge manufacturer's midway, a swap meet, and the exciting and world-famous Centerforce Burnout Contest. Racers and spectators will come from all over the world to this Super Bowl of Ford racing to see the '02 NMRA class championships decided.

One to Watch:Michael Washington is taking the drivetrain from Justin Burcham's champion-ship coupe and installing it in the former Will Buckworth teal sedan. Watch for Michael to be the man to beat in this class, which has been vacated by the top two points-getters from 2002. Also, look for Four-Valve Cobra racers to get some help in the form of a much-needed weight break.

Quick Fact:The NMRA Rule Com-mittee has expressed interest in further limiting this already introductory class by better defining the meaning of "stock-replacement" components.
