The Carlisle Ford Nationals is nirvana for lovers of Mustangs and all things Ford, and 2018 had a bunch of different exhibits inside the various buildings on the Carlisle Fairgrounds. Inside one of those buildings was a large collection of Cobra Jet Mustangs, Torinos, and more, and representing these legendary cars was none other than Al Joniec, one of the racers responsible for introducing the Cobra Jets to the world.

Ford debuted the car to the public at the 1968 NHRA Winternationals in Pomona, CA and Joniec won his class, beginning the Cobra Jet’s domination of NHRA Stock classes in the late-‘60s. We caught up with Al for a quick interview and to check out his new book about his racing life, and we present that interview here, complete with photos of all the Cobra Jets in the display. Check it out!
