2016 Hot Rod Power Tour, Day 5
Ft. Worth, Texas to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, on the fifth day of intense heat and radical Mustangs
Ed Note: Courtney Barber is our roving Mustang-360.com reporter, and she is also the owner and builder of Mustang Monthly’s Project Road Warrior 1965 Mustang. The real-deal road warrior that she is, Courtney was taking the car on the 2016 Hot Rod Power Tour and doing it for the long haul, from start to finish, so we gave her the task of reporting the action from the world’s biggest road tour. This is her report on Day Five of the Power Tour, but also make sure to like her Facebook page, Facebook.com/TeamMustangGirls, and bookmark her website TeamMustangGirls.com. She’s doing some unique videos and reporting there as well, so to get the full scope of the Power Tour and learn what Team Mustang Girls is all about, check those sites out.
After falling off the beaten path the previous day, we decided to get an early start and get a jump on the pack on the fifth day of the Hot Rod Power Tour. We were out the door by 8:00 am, which still shocks me as I write this. We started the day’s journey in Fort Worth, TX and headed for Oklahoma City, OK.
Within minutes of hitting Route 81, we were in a pack of hot rods headed north. The rush was incredible—it felt as if I went back in time. The cars were big and beautiful with every color of the rainbow glowing in the sun as we drove through the country. I know that the definition of hot rod is any modified vehicle, but the lines on a classic car have always been my favorite and throughout the drive we were surrounded by hundreds of them at all times! We managed to find a great pit stop to catch the action at a two-lane stop.
We arrived at the Power Tour stop at Remington Park in Oklahoma City nice and early and got our long hauler passes stamped. I still can't believe how fast the journey has flown by! After walking around the show we were lucky enough to meet some great guys. Their engine grill caught our eyes and next thing we know a gorgeous red Mustang pulled up and parked right next to us. The owner, Denny, is no stranger to the tour and actually has a Mustang and Hot Rod Power Tour tattoo.
Tomorrow we head to Kansas Pavilions in Wichita, KS for day 6 of the Hot Rod Power Tour unless I find a magic rewind button so we can start it all over again.
