We woke up to the sun shining in Baton Rouge, LA on our first day of travel with the Hot Rod Power Tour. We were headed for Baytown, Texas, 280 miles away, but didn't make it more than five miles down Route 10 before we started seeing other cars heading that way. They were everywhere! We fell in line with a group and started our Westward journey. I had my GPS set for the Royal Purple Raceway; yes they provided us with a route but I thought it would be good to have my phone working as a back up. Dave Mahan, who helped us build Project Road Warrior, was riding shotgun and this was his first journey past Tennessee, and he admits he is the world's worst navigator! Basically if he says to go left, I go right. Luckily he can build a bad ass Mustang so we will let it slide. All of a sudden everyone started getting off the highway so we followed the cool kids and hopped off with them. Thank God we did because it was awesome!

The Hot Rod Power Tour plans the route to make you drive through America, not just across it, and shares it in advance with anyone who wants it. So people knew we were coming and they lined the streets. Some even had grills set up to enjoy the parade. Can you imagine having thousands of Hot Rods rolling past your front door? Can I suggest a route for next year? Because I think that would be fantastic! My face literally hurt from smiling as we drove by waving at all the happy people enjoying the show.

When we arrived at the Royal Purple Raceway the sky was threatening to rain on our parade. All day it had provided us with some nice cloud cover from the sun but now it was starting to look a little less friendly. Luckily we were able to catch some action at the drag strip live on Mustang Monthly's Facebook page with a pretty spectacular backdrop of an ominous storm in the background. As they shut down the strip to prepare for the burnout contest, the wind began to pick up. People started running to their cars to get out of there....well most did, we stood at the gate to catch all the action for you live on Mustang Monthly's Facebook page again. Let's just say it got a little crunchy when the sand started blowing! But we survived it without seeing Toto fly by and actually had a fun time while getting a free shower. Today we head Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas. Stay tuned!
