Stopping at Comp Cams and Holley on the Last Day of the 2015 Goodguys Road Tour
Goodguys Road Tour, Day Last!: The last day of the Goodguys Hall of Fame Road Tour makes us realize how quickly the week went by.
Here were are on day five of the Goodguys Hall of Fame Road Tour, with the finale beginning in Memphis, Tennessee with a driver's meeting. All of the participants were sad and shocked that the trip had gone by so quickly—can we have three more days please?!
The first stop of the day was at Comp Cams where we got an amazing tour of their facility. It was cool to see the machines that create all the intricate pieces that make up the valvetrain components Comp offers, and it was especially neat to see the machines that carved out the camshaft that’s in my Ford Racing 347 stroker motor. The Comp crew also provided coffee and donuts; they definitely know the way to Goodguy's hearts!
Next stop for the day was at Greening Auto Company in Nashville. It was the cleanest shop I've ever been in—you could literally eat off the floor. Fortunately we didn’t have to test that out, as they had some tables set up for the delicious BBQ lunch they gave us. Then it was off to the final destination for the day, Holley Performance Products in Bowling Green, KY, where I started this journey a week earlier. We got a tour of Holley’s whole facility and I think my favorite part was the polishing area. For some reason it reminded me of a scene from the movie Roger Rabbit. The pieces to be polished are dropped into giant tubs that spin around and do their magic then poof, things pop out polished and gorgeous!
After Holley it was back to the final hotel of the tour. This final bit of the drive made me realize how much I wanted at least another day. The tour was an amazing adventure filled with gorgeous roads and awesome people and none of us were ready for it to be over, and are already looking forward to next year. Thank you Goodguys for the trip of a lifetime!
