If there’s one great thing as a Mustang fan living in the southern parts of the country it is many car shows are planned through the fall and winter months that keep the hobby going while the northern states have everything buttoned up in the garage for the winter. One of Florida’s popular shows is the annual Ponies Under the Palms Mustang & Ford Show in held on the west coast of central Florida each year. This year marks the 24th annual event and it will be held on Sunday, November 22nd, 2015 from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Mustang Monthly magazine will be in attendance to present an “Editor’s Choice” award to one lucky attendee.

The last few years the event venue has been on the picturesque Main Street of Lakewood Ranch, a large planned community just south of Bradenton, Florida reached by taking exit 213 off of Interstate 75. The show features Mustangs of all years and Ford-powered vehicles like Falcons, Thunderbirds, Fairlanes, and even a Ford GT supercar or two. Ford car and truck owners can enter their vehicles for popular vote-style judging, awards, and prizes. Registration is $25 before November 16th, 2015 and $30 day-of-show. It is strongly encouraged to pre-register however, as space is limited. The event is open to the public for viewing and there are multiple stores, restaurants, and more downtown for show attendees and visitors to shop or grab a bite to eat. For registered car owners, check in will be between 8:00-10:00 a.m. and a car corral for those wishing to display a car for sale is also available for $20 an entry.

One of the show’s highlights is a drawing for a weekend in nearby Sarasota, Florida. The raffle includes two nights at a top resort, two dinners at local restaurants, and an evening limo ride; a package valued at $1,500. Tickets will be sold at the show and are just $5 each. A portion of the raffle proceeds will benefit two great charities that the Mustang Club of West Central Florida supports—Southeastern Guide Dogs and Take Stock in Children. Dana Bowers’ 1966 Mustang fastback is a regular staple at Florida Mustang shows and has been featured in our magazine before.

While we focus on the vintage aspect of the hobby here these days at Mustang Monthly, we do enjoy all years of Mustangs. The SN-95/New Edge owners showed up en mass at the 2014 Ponies Under the Palms.
As can be seen here by this shot of Main Street, it is easy to see how the show got its name of “Ponies Under the Palms” with these beautiful palm trees lining the venue.
