There’s nothing quite like having a local dragstrip that you can head out to in your Mustang and make a few passes during the week. We still have a local eighth-mile dragstrip that’s a stones throw from our headquarters, so we decided to head out to Irwindale Dragstrip to check out the local Mustang action during the Thursday Night Thunder test and tune session.

Not surprisingly, the times are changing and with that change we’re seeing the younger generation of Mustang enthusiast pick up the hobby with the latest and greatest platforms available. The popular drag platforms at this strip seem to be shifting from the old school Fox-body to the S197 and even S550 Mustang chassis and that’s great to see.

One car that stood out was a twin turbo 5.0L Coyote V8 S197 Mustang that we wouldn’t mind making a few passes in. Check out some of the Mustangs we saw lighting it up at the strip!
