Today was Day 1 of the Hot Rod Power Tour, which is the official Painless Performance-sponsored Kickoff Day, the time when all of the Tour participants invade Madison, WI to register for the Tour and begin the week of insanity that is to come. Today was essentially a static car show, but oh baby it was a big one, with around 6,000 vehicles registered! The entire grounds of the Alliant Energy Center in Madison were packed to the gills with cars, trucks, and “other vehicles” of every kind, and there was also a chassis dyno challenge, autocross, and various presentations and comedy on the main stage, with host Clarence Barnes.

There is no reserved Mustang-specific section, meaning that the Mustangs of Power Tour were scattered throughout all of the other participants, so we wore out our fist pair of shoes trying to find them all. The mix seemed to be split pretty evenly between early and late-model Mustangs, surprisingly, since the 1,507-mile route usually favors the late-models with working air conditioning and cushy rides. But that’s too easy, so thankfully there are some fairly badass examples of early and late Mustangs that are going to try to make it all the way to Baton Rouge on Friday, June 12th.

Tomorrow morning is the first road day, 269 miles to Parkland College in Champaign, IL, with a lunch stop at Heidts Automotive in Lake Zurich, IL for more cruise night madness. Come on out and say hi, and bring your Mustang!

We'll be doing daily updates throughout the week during the Hot Rod Power Tour, so be sure to check back for the latest!
