Classic Recreations Brings Coyote-Powered ’67 Shelby to SEMA 2013
Officially-Licensed Shelby GT500CR: Modern Drive with Classic Style
Classic Recreations is known for building custom coaches, but the company brought something special to this year’s SEMA Show, a 1967 Shelby GT500CR. This is the only officially-licensed 1967 Shelby Mustang in production and it features an abundance of modern technology. This particular Shelby is called the 545 model.
This specific Coyote model has a brand-new 5.0L crate engine stuffed inside of the engine bay, and features modern suspension components. It features that old-school Shelby style with a modern feel behind the wheel – meaning it is completely reliable with all of the creature comforts, but with the looks of a classic Mustang.
The Shelby GT500CR features model specific bodywork, custom paint, and upholstery that is hand-stitched. With that modern 5.0L crammed inside, this GT500CR generates a healthy 490 horsepower and 429 lb-ft of torque at 4,250rpm.
The Mustang body was acquired by Dynacorn and it was completely stripped down after arrival. After that, the modern suspension was added along with power rack and pinion steering. A Tremec five-speed manual transmission keeps the driving experience modern.
Other goodies on the car include Carroll Shelby signature rally series 1000 seats, 17x9.5 rear wheels and a coilover suspension in the front and rear was added to the GT500CR for that modern sports car feel.
“If you like the graceful drivability of a modern GT500, but prefer the classic Mustang styling, this is the car for you,” said Classic Recreations owner, Jason Engel. “Classic Recreations combines modern technology with classic styling to create a best-of-both worlds experience. Now, customers can get a CR car with the same engine offered by Ford for the current Mustang.”
Classic Recreations also offers a GT500CR 900S model, which includes all of the features from the 545 model, but with a nice bump in power. A whopping 780hp is available thanks to a ProCharger F-1R supercharger and intercooler. Upgrades for this model include a 200mph speedometer and racing-style bucket seats.
The 900 model also includes suspension and chassis upgrades as well as larger 17x11-inch rear wheels wrapped with wider and stickier Goodyear tires for performance.
The GT500CRs are available in five different color schemes and include authentic Shelby Performance parts such as a real Shelby Le Mans racing gas cap. Classic Recreations offer these cars with an official Shelby serial number and badges. Each car is included inside the official Shelby Worldwide Registry.
