2014 Shelby GT500 Convertible Crossing Hot August Nights Auction
All Proceeds Benefiting Brain Injury Association of America
Hot August Nights will run from August 2-11, 2013 and one special Shelby Mustang is crossing the auction block with no reserve and for a very important cause. All proceeds from the 2014MY Shelby GT500 Convertible will benefit the Brain Injury Association of America, an organization by Indy 500 winner, Parnelli Jones, who will be present at the auction.
The winner of the Shelby will have their choice of interior, exterior, and stripe color combination offered by Ford making this ride a custom creation. On top of that, Parnelli Jones will sign the Shelby in appreciation of the BIAA donation. “With 662 horsepower, superb handling and a 0-60 time below 4.0 seconds, the Shelby GT500 is already one of the world’s greatest muscle cars,” says Steve Ling, North America car marketing manager for Ford. “So, while the thrill of owning such a rare and important car is certainly appealing, the owner of this convertible will also help further critical research needed to treat serious brain trauma. We’re honored to support Parnelli and the organization’s efforts.”
“I’d like to thank Ford for assisting the Brain Injury Association of America by donating the Shelby to the Barrett-Jackson auction,” says Parnelli Jones.
Jones came into BIAA when his son, Page Jones, a Sprint Car racer, suffered a brain injury during a race in 1994. Page Jones suffered brain and head injuries and his prognosis was grim. With the support of his family, wife, and kids, a good life was recreated for Page and he slowly recovered over the years with years of rehabilitation. An upcoming documentary – GODSPEED: The Story of Page Jones – will tell Page’s tale, which will raise awareness to the importance of rehabilitation for those who suffer from a traumatic brain injury.
“I’d like to thank Ford for assisting the Brain Injury Association of America by donating the Shelby to the Barrett-Jackson auction,” says Parnelli Jones. “Certainly this is a cause that’s been overlooked and we hope others can benefit from the charity’s work and learn through my son, Page’s, experience.”
“The Brain Injury Association of America is very excited about this opportunity to create both an educational and fundraising opportunity,” says Susan H. Connors, president and CEO of the BIAA. “Parnelli and Page are some of our strongest voices in our advocacy efforts, and we’re delighted to work together along with Ford and Barrett-Jackson for the sale of the Shelby.”
During the festivities at Hot August Nights, Ford will celebrate America’s love for cars and rock and roll. Hot laps and Ride-and-Drive will be offered in the parking lot of the Atlantis Casino Resort. Ride-and-Drive will include Ford’s stable of hot rides – Explorer, Focus, and Mustang. Ford enthusiasts will get their fix while running hot laps in a Shelby GT500, Focus ST, and Fiesta ST. Ford is giving Ride-and-Drive participants day passes to enjoy the Hot August Nights auction put on by Barrett-Jackson. Lastly, Ford will showcase their vehicles on Friday, August 9th, at the Reno to Sparks cruise-in.
