Mustang Week 2013 – Drag Night at Darlington Dragway
Thursday Calls for Hooters, SVTPerformance Coyote Cruise, Quarter-Mile Races
One event most everyone looks forward to during Mustang Week festivities is drag night at Darlington Dragway. After downing some wings at Hooters during the annual lunch meet, folks jumped in their Mustangs and made the 67-mile cruise out to Darlington Dragway for a special night at the track on Thursday, July 18.
Just before the lunch meet was the Battle of the Beach Dyno Challenge, a new event added to this year’s calendar that took place in the Myrtle Beach Mall parking lot with the help of Pro Dyno.
For those who own a Coyote Mustang, Blow By Racing put on its third-annual Coyote Cruise presented by SVTPerformance.com. The cruise takes about an hour through the back roads and they hit up two boat landings along the way -- one on the Intercoastal Waterway and the other one located on the Waccamaw River – for a little bit of happy hour. The cruise was open to any 5.0L Coyote and Roadrunner powered vehicles and started at noon in Bass Pro Parking Lot near the Blow By Racing trailer.
Every year Mustang Week’s drag night gets bigger and bigger with at least 45 cars lined up and ready to launch. Our own Steve Turner was there snapping photos of all the track action. It was a fun night for folks to grab their high-performance ponies and conquer the quarter-mile track.
The event seemed to resemble an NHRA National event with Mustangs ranging from old-school vintage to modern muscle. License plates were spotted from all over the country from as far away as New Mexico, Maine, Ohio, and Texas.
