Mustang Week is far from just your ordinary car show if you haven’t guessed by now. We’re still busy bringing you the extensive coverage from this year’s festivities. So far, we’ve brought you the Meet-N-Greet, Autocross School, and now we bring you the Autocross Fun Runs and the Burnout Contest straight from Mustang Week 2013!

On Wednesday, July 17th, the Myrtle Beach Speedway was reserved and setup so drivers could get in a few rounds of autocross. Autocross is a flat, coned course to test your car’s ability as well as your own skills behind the wheel. Cars were sent out one at a time and were meant to maintain low speeds to keep your car inside the coned areas.

For $25 car and driver, you were able to participate in the autocross fun at the Speedway which is a 1/2-mile, NASCAR sanctioned, oval track. For $5, folks were allowed to spectate from the stands.

Autocross ran continuously from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. with the burnout contest (put on by SVTPerformance and Discount Tire) meant to start at 5:30 p.m. Even though the burnout contest was delayed an hour due to rain, it turned out to be one of the best ones yet! There was bumper shredding madness, a TV star, a French filmmaker, and a marriage proposal on top of all of the Mustangs willing and ready to roast some rubber!

The ultimate burnout showdown was between Chris Woods and his Kenne Bell-blown white GT and Octane Academy contestant for Team Vaughn Gittin Jr., Jonathan Nerren. With Chris blowing out his tire and bumper early on, Jonathan challenged the rest of the field with his New Edge Saleen and ultimately took home the burnout contest win along with a set of Nitto Tires worth $500.

Let’s make next year even more memorable!
