Every once in a while we get to ditch the office chairs for a day of slammin’ gears at the track. This time around we packed up and made the haul to Palm Beach International Raceway (PBIR), our new testing facility, to perform testing with the guys from Steeda and Procharger. Steeda brought its new 2013 Boss 302 Laguna Seca along with the mean Steeda Mustang for some hot laps on the road course. We also needed the quarter-mile track to test out a Mustang GT equipped with the revolutionary new programmable ProCharger i-1.

The Boss 302 Laguna Seca is very balanced, neutral, and easy to drive

“The Steeda Mustangs performed excellent on track. I drove the Boss 302 Laguna Seca, which was incredibly balanced with the Watts-link and coilover suspension,” said Editor Evan Smith. “The grip level was amazing, the turn-in was accurate, which gives the driver excellent control and the ability to drive with a lot of confidence. The car is very balanced, neutral, and easy to drive.”

The red Steeda Mustang was more than ready to challenge the road course. Equipped with the Steeda G-Trac fully adjustable suspension, it made diving into apexes seem like a breeze.

“The red car is a little more for the street, so it doesn’t quite have the grip level as the Boss 302, but it still improves handling over a stock GT and gives you much quicker lap times, less body roll, and the car remains flatter in the corners. Overall it is just a really fun, compliant car,” Smith continues.

Starting out bright and early, Editor Smith took out fellow Associate Editor Kristian Grimsland’s 1998 Cobra for a few hot laps around the road course. Even our newest office addition, D.J. Randall, rocked the road course like a pro.

“We also tested the i-1 ProCharger on a 2011 Mustang GT and that’s a pretty incredible blower. The technology is amazing to be able to shift the performance of the blower on the fly and give you different ratios of blower drive. To either increase or decrease the performance of the blower we ran it at the track in full performance mode, and the car ran well into the 11s at over 120 mph with just the one bolt-on. It’s a very clean installation and driveability is excellent with the tune-up that was applied. It really enhances performance and driveability, but with a lot more horsepower.”

With temperatures soaring in the high to mid-90s, Editor Smith was bangin’ gears in the ProCharged Coyote down the quarter-mile strip. Even with temps soaring, the car made an impressive pass of 11.877 at 121.77 mph.
