Despite a rainy first day, the Carlisle Ford Weekend event still proved to be one of the best Ford-themed events ever. While the rain may have dampened the ground during the first day, it didn’t dampen the spirits of thousands of Ford enthusiasts from showing up and having a good time. Nearly 3,000 Ford vehicles made their presence known at the weekend, which included special guests, an autocross, demo rides, on site installations, and more.

Indoor displays included High Performance 289 get-together held in Building G, with the presence of legendary racer Milo Coleman. Moving along to Building T, some of Ford’s finest sat along the fence, including the 850-plus horsepower Shelby GT500 Super Snake, an early ‘40s truck with a flatbed, a Ford Tractor, a pair of Starsky and Hutch vehicles (one from the movie, one from the TV show) and a few Ford street rods. Another section included a 20th Anniversary SVT display, and of course a corral of cars for sale.

Saturday and Sunday brought sunshine, amping-up the energy level for the rest of the weekend. The gates opened at 7 a.m. on Saturday for eager Ford enthusiasts ready for some action. The day’s events brought the likes of Vaughn Gittin Jr., who showed off some hooning skills and signed autographs, as well as seminars and autographs from Steve Saleen. Let’s not forget the burnout competitions, beauty contest, and a Ford-themed parade through downtown Carlisle.

If that wasn’t enough for Saturday, Ford still continued test drives at the Carlisle Expo Center with Raptor ride-alongs on a special course, as well as autocross ride-alongs with the Mobile Mod Center and MRT. The midway, swap meet, and car corral were crowded with foot traffic with guests shopping all day, and onsite installations provided by Ford Racing Garage and A&A Auto Stores.

Sunday was a wrap for the 2013 event with the Raptor rides still kicking, plus the weekend winners’ lists were posted. Around mid-day the awards took place, given out to various cars and owners who brought their beloved Fords to the event. An M-6007-X302D Crate Engine was awarded to Charles Kelly, a vendor. Also, with the Ford Raptor making a strong presence, fans were able to register for a chance to win one. A two-year lease on a new Raptor will be announced Sunday, September 8th as part of the all-new Carlisle Sports and Outdoors Nationals.

As we say goodbye to the 2013 Ford Weekend this year, plans are already in preparation for next year. It can only get bigger and better with the 50th birthday of the Ford Mustang. So, if you feel inclined, mark your calendars for June 6-8 of 2014 at the Carlisle PA Fairgrounds. You won’t want to miss it!
