Mustang & Ford Roundup - Let's Get Started
The event judging at the Silver Springs show is done by popular vote, with registered car attendees doing the voting via ballots included with their registration packets. This makes for a stress-free event. | There's always something cool to see in "truck row" at the Silver Springs show. If you're a fan of the old-guard Broncos, this display of stock to custom models, including half- and full-cab variants, was sure to please. | Speaking of trucks, we spotted a rare bird late Saturday when we came upon this way-cool '63 F-100 unibody being pampered by Jerry Boles of Port St. John, Florida. Jerry dropped in a 4.6 four-valve modular from a Lincoln Mark VIII for motivation. | There was a nice contingent of Mavericks and Comets from the Maverick Comet Club International-from stock inlines to tastefully modified Grabbers and GTs. Also of note were mini-meets or group displays for Cougars (hosted by the Sunshine State Cougar Club), Thunderbirds, Falcons, and more. | How's this for an attention getter? Mike Dove of Covington, Georgia, brought his '65 Falcon to the show with a positively "ginormous" induction setup. Unfortunately, we didn't get to hear this beast run, but we're sure it had some mean lumppitty-lump to it. | This fine little specimen stopped us in our tracks on Sunday morning. Ed Sluss of Seminole, Florida, brought out his super-clean '65 Fairlane 500 S/C for all to see. We really dug the fender skirts and detail items. Only 15,141 sports coupes were sold in 1965. | While specialty vehicles like Cobra replicas and other exotics usually get their own show area, we can only guess that Mark Dukes of Kissimmee, Florida, wanted to park his '65 Factory Five roadster with friends and fellow club members. | Checking out more than 1,000 show cars and multiple ride attractions, combined with Sunday's perfect weather, meant Rickey Moss of Stanley, North Carolina, heard his camp chair calling his name and succumbed to the comfort of an afternoon power nap. | NPD invited several of its top vendors to put on seminars for the crowd, display their latest products, hand out catalogs, and answer technical questions. The vendors, which included Eaton Detroit Spring, Stainless Steel Brakes, TMI Upholstery, RRS, Control Freak Suspensions, and more, were busy all weekend. |
