Mustang & Ford Roundup - Let's Get Started

On Sunday afternoon, we spotted this '65 Mercury Comet with an inline-six and column shift. What a cool ride. Kudos to its owner, Don Bell of Gainesville, Florida.

As in years past, Mustang & Fords magazine and Mustang Monthly magazine, cosponsors of the Silver Springs show, awarded a Young Owners trophy to a car owner under 25. We spotted Brittany Murphy's two-tone '73 Comet and were impressed by the amount of work she did on the car herself. Brittany, of Loganville, Georgia, wasn't at the show because she didn't want to miss school.

The awards ceremony was presented by Jim and Rick Schmidt of NPD and Jeff Ford of RRS. Awards consisted of these smart-looking glass mugs, perfect for display or your favorite cold drink.

Al Kamhi of Control Freak Suspensions brought out this killer '57 Sedan Delivery restomod, complete with a 427 FE wearing a full brace of Webers for eye-candy.

Of course, the custom interior, audio system, suspension, and wheels surely helped in the visual department as well.

Jim Schmidt (right) presented the first award of the day, the new Iacocca award for "Perpetuating an American Automotive Tradition," to Larry Galyean.

Mustang & Fords had the tough task of picking an Editor's Choice award winner at Silver Springs. While we had jotted down many a car-class number, we kept coming back to Jimmy Voyles' pristine '66 fastback.

Jimmy's car was finished just a few weeks before the Silver Springs roundup, and he drove from China Grove, North Carolina, to put his first car project on display. The fastback features a five-speed conversion with a nicely built small-block under the hood.

A good amount of chrome, stainless hardware, TMI Sport Seats, polished Torq-Thrusts, and a body-color engine compartment make the fastback stand out while retaining the Mustang's classic lines and feel.
