Robin Burnett, the 2008 American Iron champion, was at Sebring all weekend blowing the cobwebs off his '05 Steeda Q Mustang, even offering rides to those willing to be belted into the passenger seat.

Now here's a Mustang owner having a bit of weekend track fun without putting out serious cash. A set of track tires, and a brake rotor and pad change for the front brake system and he's ready to rock.

Short of a lettered up track car you can usually tell the more serious track fanatics by their interiors. They know that safety is first (multi-point cage) and that you can more easily control the car if you have a supportive seat and five-point harness. You can't provide steering input if you're using the steering wheel to hold on for dear life.

For those of you that attended the Mustang 45th anniversary at Barber Motorsports Park you might have caught the special SVT Cobra race there. Several of the Track Guys instructors were there for the special Mustang Racing Technologies (MRT) event with their Cobras and just five weeks later they're running again here at Sebring.

2009 Camp Steeda
While there were four run groups for various skill levels, each driver and participant had to be at least 16-years-old to be on track during the event (note for those considering going next year), but during the hour-long lunch break the SVTOA had pace laps for anyone who wanted to take their cars on track. Any age passenger was allowed and no helmets were needed, which gave drivers a chance to take the younger family members for a spirited ride around the famous 3.7-mile Sebring course.

As we noted in the opening text, it wasn't just Mustangs hitting the track at Sebring either. Besides a really sweet looking classic Cougar (replete with Trans-Am period Dan Gurney silver/red paint scheme) we spied this tag team consisting of a race ready Factory Five Roadster and an ex-Panoz Racing School Esperante.

This SPEED World Challenge Mustang certainly had an all-business look and sound to it as it exited out of turn 17 at Sebring. The advanced run groups certainly took advantage of the available passing zones setup by the SVTOA instructors.

2009 Camp Steeda
Protecting your street car's finish during a track day isn't easy. While some driver's choose to keep away from traffic to minimize any potential damage, others spend countless hours wrapping up the nose of their ride with tape. Unfortunately the only good that blue painters tape is for is showing you exactly where the debris hit you!

You can take it the next step and cover the painters tape with duct tape, like this Factory Five owner did, but that's quite time consuming. We found a product called Road Wrap (www.buyroadwrap.com; (888) 806-7474) at the Mustang 45th anniversary show and purchased a roll for our own vehicles. It's similar to the clear bra material on the market, but you install it yourself as temporary protection for bug season, track days, etc. It works, and it goes on fast and it's what we use for our track days.
