Driving To Carlisle
The decision to drive down to this event was taken fairly early on in the planning stages. We've gone to quite a few shindigs now and we lament that everybody else is having fun with their cars at these except us. So why not drive? In essence it was made easier when a bunch of friends and fellow Mustang nuts said they were going and would we like to tag along. And although the 'Shed was certainly not among the prettiest cars on the showfield (just wait a couple of years he, though), it looked decent enough after a bit of spit shining, and it ran like an absolute champ. Even with 162,000 miles on the original shortblock (close to 164,000 though by the time we got home), it used hardly a drop of oil on the seven-hour jaunt to pennsylvania, nor on the way back. It started first time, every time, hauled all our gear and did everything we asked of it. proof, if any that in our eyes at least, the venerable Fox bodied 5-liter Mustang, despite its shortcomings, is one of the best cars ever created by man.
